DRAWING 101
Blending
Module 5 - Introduction
Blending is a versatile and indispensable skill that allows artists to seamlessly merge colors, tones, and textures, creating smooth transitions and subtle gradations in their drawings. Used correctly, this technique can illustrate the illusion of depth and realism as contrasts from light to dark are gradual much like that seen in the natural world.

Blending: The technique of gently intermingling two or more colors or values to create a gradual transition in gradient.
Module Goal.
This module will introduce and define the technique of blending in drawing. We will explore the various tools used to accomplish the technique of blending, how blending was used by the great da Vinci, and utilize this technique in your own composition to bring about realistic depth. When you complete this module, you will be able to identify this technique when used in a composition and demonstrate the capacity to implement blending in your own composition by utilizing the tools necessary.
Module Objectives.
By the end of this module, you will be able to:
-
Identify the blending technique used in a composition. (CO 1)
-
Recognize the tools used in blending a drawing composition. (CO 1)
-
Examine the blending technique used by Leonardo da Vinci called "sfumato". (CO 2)
-
Demonstrate proper use of the blending technique by applying it to a composition. (CO 3)
